Hi There! I'm Gretchen!
I am a multi-tasking, boundary pushing, budget balancing, servant hearted, native Virginian, who loves people and a good laugh! I started working in the hospitality industry a few years before I got married, in 2001. I realized quickly, with a small taste in the catering division, that I LOVE weddings and special occasions! I then moved over to venue management and immediately fell into the role of planning weddings for the many clients that came through the doors. This was all unofficial planning until I was urged by many clients to open my own company to provide wedding planning and design services. Dragonfly Events and Design was born in 2006, right after my first born came into the world. I was undeniably in love…. with both.
I love sorting through a client's inspiration pictures, hearing what they are envisioning for their day, seeing who they are as a couple and then diving into the spectacular pool of resources in our hospitality industry. I love everything from fabric swatches and vintage china to lighting, menus and music. I find an easy and creative flow to it all and it has become a 2nd nature to me!
There is never a moment when I wonder if I’m in the right place in my life. This creative, servant heart of mine has found a place to flourish. I am so grateful for all of the blessings that God has given me and I hope that my life and work honor him.
When I’m not planning weddings or knee deep in bushels of flowers, my husband, Erich and I love to take our family and two dogs to the water or to the mountains - we are definitely an adventure seeking family! It is a really good life with my everything of a husband, our two beautiful daughters and the many colleagues and clients that feel like family now.
